“An exodus is a departure, a leaving, a movement. It’s motion, energy, action. An exodus is something you do, something you’re caught up in, somewhere you’re going, something you join because you don’t want to stay where you are.” –Rob Bell
People will ask, “If your name is Exodus, where are you going?”
God always hears the cry of the oppressed. In the book of Exodus, God heard the cry of His people serving as slaves in Egypt. He sent Moses to deliver them out of slavery to a land God had promised.
Just like the Israelites, we need to be rescued. There’s an Egypt we are all born into, and that is what we really need an exodus from. Because of His great love for us God sent His only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross to set us free from slavery to sin. We believe that all people, everywhere, can be set free not only from the consequences of sin, but sin itself through faith in Jesus Christ.
Where are we going? We are moving away from sin, towards Christ, as we are transformed into His likeness, by the power of the Holy Spirit.
